I just wanna salsa

22 Sep

For today’s blog, I was going to write about Fantastic Fest as tomorrow is the festival’s opening day. However, tonight I had a stroke of inspiration in a very different form. A spicy, liquid, delicious form. I’m talking about salsa here, people.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love food. I love healthy food, junk food, free food, expensive food. Old food, fresh food. Spicy food, bland food. Cold food, hot food. Foreign food, American food. As long as it was never alive at some point, I’ll eat it.

One of my favorite kinds of food is Mexican food. I could eat enchiladas smothered in ranchero sauce and dripping with ooey-gooey cheese everyday. Or I could just make a whole meal out of chips, salsa, and queso. Lucky for me, Austin has an amazing array of Mexican restaurants, each with their own mouth-watering take on salsa. Kerbey Lane, El Mercado, Matt’s El Rancho, and Chuy’s have very taste bud-pleasing salsas to name just a few. However, the only way to truly get the best salsa for your taste is to make it yourself, and that is what I did tonight.

Mmmmmm doesn't it just look delicious?

A few years ago, my brother and I convinced my mom to buy a Magic Bullet after we watched the infomercial for the blender about a million times. Once I got my hands on the Bullet, I became a food-crafting master. After fiddling with different recipes in the blender, my favorite cuisine to whip up became salsa. And I don’t mean to brag, but my recipe is award-winning. It has the tang of limes, the fire of chipotle peppers, the prick of garlic, and the smoothness of cilantro. And, like the infomercial says, “In just one, two, three seconds” you have the perfect salsa.

By now I’m betting you want the recipe. Too bad. All this talk of salsa has made me hungry, so I’m going to go savor the liquid, spicy gold. But don’t fret. I’ll post the recipe in the coming days.

You’re welcome.
